I found this painting while tidying up today. It's a painting I did last summer using watercolour paints, watercolour pencils and masking fluid. I'm looking at it with fresh eyes after finishing my course in watercolour, thinking about what I would do different and what techniques I would pick up again from this piece. My teacher wasn't a big fan of all the "fancy" tools and techniques other watercolourists use and would have frowned upon me using anything other than 3 tubes of his personal signature brand of paint and a single Chinese brush. I'm not too much a fan of material-heavy art-making myself but I can't look at this painting and write off "fancy" equipment either. Oh well, I guess it will have to be for the masses to decide.
